Hanoi gives ’artisan’ title to 42 handicraft artists


The capital authorities have given the title of “artisan” to 42 skilled handicraft artists in handicraft villages in the city, as an official way to recognise their skills and praise their efforts to preserve the traditional handicrafts.

The honoured artisans included three artists working in the field of lacquer; eight artists working in sculpture, carving statue, making gold and silver-gilded wood; three artists working as iron forgers; two as traditional wooden house builders; one as silversmith and one as bambooware maker.

The youngest artisans honoured this time are Nguyen Tan Phat, born in 1983 and working in the field of lacquer in Trung Huong Ward, and Son Tay Town and Nguyen Thuy Duong, also born in 1983, making ceramic wares in Giang Cao Village, Bat Trang Commune, Gia Lam District.

The oldest artisans to receive the honour this time are Nguyen Van Moc and Đinh Cong Đoan from Đa Sy Forging Village and Đo Danh Thu, who make bass-reliefs in Long Phu Village, Hoa Thach Commune, Quoc Oai District. All of them were born in 1951.
