The host leader reiterated that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always treasure the special relationship with their Lao counterparts. 

He affirmed the support for stronger cooperation between the two supreme courts, stressing that the court system plays an important role in building a rule-governed State and protecting justice and human rights in each country.

The President expressed his delight at the two supreme courts’ frequent delegation exchanges, experience sharing, and enhanced cooperation in crime fight and personnel training. He also highly valued reform and development achievements that the Lao court system has attained recently.

He asked the supreme courts of Vietnam and Laos to continue developing their cooperation so as to bring about concrete and practical benefits for both court systems, thus contributing to each country’s development as well as the two countries’ traditional cooperation and special friendship.

President Quang, who also chairs the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, asked the two countries’ court sectors to step up judicial reforms to meet demand in the new context. He added mutual assistance and experience sharing are very important to this work.

At the meeting, the leader also congratulated the People’s Supreme Court of Laos on being presented with the Independence Order (first class), a noble order of the State of Vietnam. Some officials of the Lao court were also granted with other awards.

Briefing his host about their working visit to Vietnam, Chief Justice Khamphanh Sithidampha said the two court systems have organised regular visits to share experience as well as training courses. 

At the talks with officials of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam earlier the same day, the two sides reviewed cooperation outcomes and outlined cooperation plans for 2018 and the following years.

He added in the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017, the court sectors held various activities to educate younger generations on the two countries’ special relations.

He also thanked the Vietnamese Party and State for presenting noble awards for the People’s Supreme Court of Laos.

NA Chairwoman urges for deeper Vietnam-Laos judicial cooperation

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan urged for deeper cooperation between judicial systems of Vietnam and Laos during her reception for Chief Justice of the Lao Supreme People’s 

Court Khamphanh Sithidampha in Hanoi on January 4.

During the meeting, Chief Justice Khamphanh Sithidampha briefed his host about results of the talks between the two countries’ courts earlier the day and their plans for future cooperation. At the talks, the two 

sides highly spoke of what they have together achieved in 2017.

The Lao Chief Justice expressed his sincere thanks to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, particularly the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, for supporting that of Laos.

He informed Ngan on the two courts’ activities during the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year – 2017, including education programmes that provided their staff better understanding of the two nations’ 

long-standing relations and experience sharing events.

He pledged to do his utmost to maintain and nurture the Vietnam-Laos special ties.

Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highly appreciated outcomes of the cooperation between the supreme courts of Vietnam and Laos and asked the two sides to further develop their ties in order to bring 

real benefits to the court system of the both sides.

She suggested they should increase experience sharing and delegation exchanges, and enhance cooperation in personnel training and relations between their courts in different areas and at local levels.

Ngan extended her greetings to Lao NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou who will visit Vietnam for the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) in Hanoi this month.
